Recently there have been some interesting revelations regarding the Wills of some of Britain’s famous Victorians. Novelist Charles Dickens, who wrote such classics as Oliver Twist and Great Expectations, left an estate worth £7M in today’s money, whilst naturalist Charles Darwin left over £13M!

The majority of people however, leave more modest sums, but as the BBC’s Panorama revealed recently, we all need to protect what we have and should be careful in making the right choice of who makes your Will and deals with your Estate.

The BBC's "Panorama" programme revealed that many people don’t use their local solicitor to assist with the making of their Will or dealing with their Estate after death, instead using the services of Will Writing companies. These companies have actively targeted many people, offering package deals for drawing up their Will, dealing with their Estate and charging for the storage of the Will.

However, Louise Salisbury, Partner and Wills and Probate Specialist with local Rochdale law firm Molesworths points out:

"Many Wills cover very complex scenarios and in our experience it is vitally important that you seek independent legal advice when entering into one. Solicitors who specialise in Wills and Probate know what they are doing and have had the requisite training and more importantly they are both properly regulated and fully insured, therefore representing good value for money”

Louise, who is also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and STEP (Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners) continues:

“A recent survey taken by STEP found that 3 out of 4 solicitors had come across negligently drafted Wills in the last couple of years. Sadly, I predict that this number will rise as and when people pass away and their Will is read, leaving a potential time bomb. That is why we are offering a Free Will Checking service at our offices in Rochdale’s town centre to anyone who is concerned about their Will or would like advice on writing one”.

By using a solicitor, you can be assured that they are regulated, insured if things go wrong, has experience and has a comprehensive grasp and understanding of the law relating to Wills and Probate. They are duty bound to be clear and up front with their fees, and those fees are often a lot less then people believe. Don’t be fooled by adverts showing low prices and make sure you know the full cost before making up your mind.

To make your appointment and take advantage of this free offer with Louise or a member of her professional & friendly team please call 01706 356666 or visit the Wills & Probate pages of this website.
