Beware the Morning After – Drink Driving

Date online: 24/11/2014

It’s now 50 years since the first Drink Driving campaigns and there is no doubt that they have had a great impact on saving lives. However in 2013 there were still 230 deaths due to drink driving – accounting for 13% of all road fatalities.

By drinking and driving, you risk your life, those of your passengers and others on the road.

Our message this year is “Beware of the morning after”.

The only way to ensure that alcohol is out of your system is by giving it time, trust us, there is no quick fix for sobering up.

Note that the way alcohol affects you depends on:

• your weight, age, sex and metabolism

• the type and amount of alcohol you’re drinking

• what you’ve eaten recently

• your stress levels at the time

So if you’re driving, it’s better to simply have none.

The best information on drink limits and guidance is found here: http://think.direct.gov.uk/drink-driving.html

As a further deterrent if you are found guilty of drink driving you could suffer a fine of up to £5,000, a minimum 12-month driving ban and a criminal record.
